3N82 - Little Holcomb is a quick off-road run through the dense forest of upper Holcomb Valley, north of Big Bear Lake in California's San Bernardino National Forest. While still easy enough for high clearance 2WD vehicles, Little Holcomb includes a pint-sized sampling of the rocky terrain that Big Bear's more popular Holcomb Valley trails are known for. Little Holcomb is easy to access, fun to explore and can offer a light challenge to those new to off-roading.
Forest Route 3N82 - Little Holcomb includes a mild climb as it twists through tight forest brush. The trail is some soft dirt, but mostly small rock and one small tree root/rock obstacle at Waypoint 3.
The trail connects from 3N16 on the south end, to 3N83 on the north. This trail can be run in either direction.
Brush along the sides of this trail is dense and pinstriping is likely through some sections.
Head north from 3N16 to start on the trail.
Climb this mellow hill and continue straight.
Continue straight to make your way up the Little Rock Garden.
Continue straight, past this small turn out.
Continue straight at this Power Pole Intersection.
Continue straight past this unmarked trail leading into the K&J mining claim.
3N82 ends here at 3N83. A right turn on 3N83 will lead to 3N10. A left turn here will lead back down to 3N16.
Camping on this trail is not ideal. Better nearby camping options are Yellow Post sites along 3N12 or 2N09A, the Holcomb Valley Campground or Serrano Campground.
Yellow posts can be found at Waypoint 4 of 3N12 and Waypoint 2 on 3N12C / 2N09A.
Holcomb Valley Campground can be found at Waypoint 17 of 3N16 where all sites are first-come-first-serve basis. Holcomb Valley Campground includes vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings.
Serrano Campground is near the north shore of Big Bear Lake and is open late February to late November of each year. This campground includes over one hundred sites for tent and RV camping, some with full utility hookups, flush toilets, potable water, and hot showers.
