Old Sluice, the hardest section of the Rubicon, typically bypassed by most, is what experienced rock crawlers run the Rubicon for.
This short section of the Rubicon is full of large boulders and technical rock gardens.
The best way to run Old Sluice is going up it; starting on the Buck Island Lake side and ending near Spider Lake.
Rock Crawlers on the Rubicon who are looking for more of challenge than the rest of the trail provides will enjoy running up Old Sluice.
The best camping near Old Sluice is at Buck Island Lake where there are wide open spaces, vault toilets and a lake to cool off in.
